Let’s start with a quote from the introduction article I wrote on the Nomos Tangente 2date. Here goes: “… if you wear this new Tangente on a first date, the chances you will land a second date are practically zero if the other person is into watches and a frequent contributor to the ‘date or no date’ debate online.” Well, I was wrong because I went on a second date with the Tangente 2date. Why? Well, everybody deserves a second chance, and that includes watches. This is what happened. “Hi, how are you? Glad you agreed to meet me again.…

Hello, and welcome to this week’s episode of Fratello Talks. Today, we’re bringing back the fan-favorite topic of affordable watches. Nacho, Lex, and Daan picked one favorite under €1,000 from each of their collections. Our first time highlighting affordable favorites, we ended up with three divers — two from Seiko and one from Citizen. Today’s selection is a bit more varied and counts among it an integrated-bracelet steel sports watch, a titanium GMT, and a Bioceramic lookalike of one of the most well-known dive watches out there. Without further ado, let’s check out the watches in this episode’s wrist check. Wrist…

Conclusion When the FJH was announced, I saw many comments decrying its price tag, which is $4,400, as shown. This surprised me initially. I mean, people complaining about prices is never really surprising, but I felt that Fears had established their price point well. While the FJH certainly wasn’t inexpensive, it felt in line with what one of their watches would cost with an additional and uncommon complication. Moreover, I respect their decision to price it as they have, whether it’s received well or not. Fears is a rare example of a brand that has emerged from the “microbrand boom”…

If you haven’t gleaned this yet, I watch the pricing of these watches pretty closely. All of them. And I would be open to owning any of them – including the yellow gold examples (which aren’t readily available, though there are three available on C24 right now). I have seen prices fluctuate markedly recently and where we are now, I think, is a period where the delta between the ask and the offer is just really very wide.  It’s no different than many markets for many things at the moment – you have people trying to hold on to an environment…

Well, the New York edition of the Windup Watch Fair for 2024 is done and dusted, and as per usual, I have opinions. This year’s fair featured more than 130 brands, sprawling across a space five times the size of last year’s, and still, the venue seemed to be bursting at the seams with eager enthusiasts salivating over the watch world’s latest and greatest. This really is the Super Bowl for micro and indie brands, with strong showings too numerous to list, but I’ll do my level best, in alphabetical order, to spotlight ten of my (highly subjective) standouts. Time…

The new Omega Speedmaster FOiS (for First Omega in Space) is the perfect example of a watch that’s not particularly spectacular, groundbreaking or innovative. But more often than not, a great watch doesn’t need to be a game-changer. The 2024 Speedmaster FOiS comes in continuity to a concept introduced in 2012, a vintage-inspired watch celebrating the first space flight of an Omega watch. It retains what should be retained, it upgrades what could be upgraded and somehow brings what the fan base wanted to see in this watch. Following our introducing article, it’s time now for us to bring our…

Easily one of the most avant-garde new luxury watches from a Swiss watchmaker in 2024 is the limited-edition (just 10 pieces were made) Hautlence Retrovision ’47 watch. It started not as a commercial timepiece, but rather as a concept. Displaying the watch for audiences at Watches & Wonders 2024, Hautlence apparently had enough courage to make this product a reality in the form of a very exclusive limited-edition series. Hautlence is owned by H. Moser & Cie and is an…

In a very unexpected move, the Horlogical Brothers known as Tim and Bart Grönefeld are launching a new, more accessible brand aimed at a broader audience. Honouring their father with the very first model, the newly founded Grøne Oldenzaal brand offers the typical Grönefeld style (design-wise at least) at a…
